In his article "Homeless People’s
Perceptions of Welcomeness and Unwelcomeness in Healthcare Encounters" (2007),
Chuck Wen asserts that discrimination within the health care facilities is
prominent and subject as to why homeless individuals are hesitant to seeking
medical care. Wen supports his claims by introducing a study he did about the
“I-it’s” and the “I-you’s” and how they the choice of wording physicians use is
very important to making a homeless or non-homeless person feel welcome in
their facility. His purpose in writing this article is to how physicians in
healthcare facilities use discrimination in their practices with simply their
world choice. He seems to have a tone that shows his activism on behave of
homelessness discrimination.
