Obama vs Romney

While watching the convention videos for both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, I’ve noticed many elements that made the message stand out to me. The first main element for both videos was the music. I felt like Romney’s music was much more appealing because the tone and the pitch was more present, as appose to Obamas which was barely playing. Visually I love the pictures that Obama presents because each slide is so relevant to each American individual, no just politicians. Romney did the same, however he used his “lovely” family history as visual appeal. Looking at Romney’s video it made me feel very cozy. Like the feeling you get when you’re in your Grandmas kitchen. Romney’s portrays this feeling to viewers by showing the love of his family, gatherings, laughing children, and images and videos of him happy. Considering the message of both videos, Obamas message was much more meaningful. Obama was consistent with talking about the problems of the country, and how he could improve them. Romney’s video was much more of an introduction to what kind of a family man he is. I think he could of focused more on how he improved Massachusetts as governor so viewers could have had a better since of his leadership skills. However, Obama and Romney’s videos both focus mainly on positive situations. For example, When Obama was addressing the issues about our troops; the video played a clip of a solider being reunited with his daughter. This is a visual of positive pathos. Obama also uses text to gain attention as well. In the beginning there is a clip of a sign that says “WE SHALL OVERCOME” and then the next clip shows the American flag, portraying a message that America will succeed if we vote for Obama. Both of the videos where every intriguing in different ways. Romney’s video was much more appealing while Obama’s video had a more important message to report. I feel like both candidates balance out in the success of their videos.
