Ann Romney and Michelle Obama

The recent speeches given by Ann Romney and Michelle Obama where two well prepared speeches that addressed why voters should vote for Mitt Romney Barack Obama. After viewing both speeches, I’ve noticed that Michelle Obama was much more captivating and affective than Ann. Michelle Obama provided significant ethos by addressing what she and her husband has done to improve the country over the last four years. She also adds to her speech by telling the stories she has heard, and how her and her husband strive to improve the lives that have been suffering.
She goes on to tell us about a man who had lost his ability to see while fighting the war in Afghanistan. The amazing stories where touching, thus making her speech much more appealing to pathos. Michelle added humor to her speech by talking about how her and Obama had no money, and went out on dates with a hole in the car floor. She provides these details to notify the audience that her and her husband have had the same problems that middle class families have today. This gives the audience a personal connection with the couple by drawing in their emotions. Plus, Michelle delivers these messages in a way that makes the audience laugh. Ann’s speech was fascinating as well with providing affective ethos and pathos, however, I felt that her speech was more rehearsed than naturally spoken.  Ann also takes a long time getting her point across which makes it difficult to follow her.  On the other hand, I love how Ann starts off with focusing on the disaster of the hurricane. By doing so she is providing credibility for herself by letting others know that she is focusing on the problems in America. These speeches where similar in ways of topic, structure, and pathos. Ann and Michelle both captured the audience by mainly focusing on the emotions of the crowd, and how they can appeal to their personal lives. I do not think that my judgment of the two speeches is bias because I honestly don’t have a strong political view point about this election.
